Group A & B Guidelines
Group A is for experienced photographers, which includes those who have been an ‘A’ or
higher member of any other camera club , those who use their photographic skills to provide or augment income, or those who are frequent entrants in juried art shows and exhibitions.

Group B is to provide beginning photographers an opportunity to exhibit and be compared to their peers rather than to advanced photographers.

If a member is unsure to which category they belong, they should discuss it with the competition chairman for final placement. Members in B Group who win one or more first place medals will automatically advance to A Group in the following year. Members in B Group who accumulate two or more 2nd or 3rd place medals during three consecutive years of their membership will then move into the A Group.

A member, with the consent of the competition chairman, may switch between groups during a competition year providing they have not accumulated any points (unless the member has advanced to Group A because their standing in Group B.)

A member is in the same category, A or B, in all competitions. Your group designation is now part of the online database. You may be asked to confirm your group upon first entering the digital competition for this season.
Similar Image was Previous Winner?
Any image that has previously acquired points in a SJCC competition cannot be manipulated and entered into another competition. Pictures that are so similar as to be almost identical to those that have previously acquired points in SJCC competition are ineligible for re-entry in another SJCC competition. Any entry may be challenged by a member for any reason, after the competition concludes. Final decision will rest with the chairperson of the competition. In his/her absence, the President or Vice President will decide.

This rule includes taking the same or very similar image and either cropping it differently or converting it to grayscale for monochrome competition, or vice versa. If you are concerned that your entry might be mistaken for an image that has already won points then it is probably best to select an alternative. Shown here is a ‘hypothetical’ example which helps illustrate this rule.

Original winning photo and slightly different pose and cropping but too similar to the original winning photo — not OK:

Same subject but totally different pose and vantage point — OK:

Digital
The monthly Digital Competition consists of two groups, A & B, with a limit of 2 entries per member. Topics will be assigned to 4 of the 10 competitions.

Digital images may be a maximum of 768 high x 1024 wide, and 500K. Anything larger will be automatically downsized by this software, and you might not like the result. Therefore, size it properly before uploading. Name your files in the format of YourName_ImageName.jpg.
Prints
The monthly Print Competition is split into 2 groups; A & B with a limit of 2 entries per member. There are 2 assigned topics in monochrome and 2 assigned topics in color.

A monochrome print is defined as having no more than one color; e.g., gray, sepia, selenium etc. Beginning in the 2009-2010 season, spot colors are no longer allowed in the monochrome category.

Monochrome prints (as defined above) are not allowed in the Color Print Competition. A naturally occurring colorless image such as a snow scene is permissible as long as it hasn't been de-saturated or converted to grayscale. A monochrome print with spot color is to be classified as a color print. This is a change beginning in the 2009-2010 season. Previously such images were allowed in the Monochome competition.
